he Age-Old Question:
To join HEAT you should be about 16 years or older. There are some exceptions to this rule, but we mainly want members who will fit into our team's age group. At 16, you are able to drive to games which is important because you need a car to transport your gear and get you to the games. We do not think players under 16 are too young to play airsoft -- since that's when some of us started playing -- but right now we are mainly looking for members over 16 years old. Feel free to ask about this.
we have been known to make exceptions, one of our team members is only 15, 14 however is the youngest we can go because below that age you cannot play at public events,
on a side note, whats your name? I just graduated from Barrington 06

Thanks birdman, I just finished reading that in About us. I'm Jim and a freshman at barrington and I'm 15. I mainly use my TM 14 but I have several other guns. I dont plan on attempting to join the team till next year when I get my liscense for obvious reasons but I pretty much meet all the requirements but I have one question: I use an MP5 as my backup is that ok that I carry a spring pistol?

i think some of the events we go to (cpx) only allow us to use full scale aegs and gbbs, but there is almost always someone who brings a spring pistol just to mess around with between rounds.

some members on heat dont even have a pistol, you can carry it but really dont recommend it, i think we have something in the about us section that answers that question
EDIT: yup found it
Handguns
* Handguns should be semi or full auto and should fire by HFC134a, green gas, or CO2; again, we do not play with springer weapons
* There is no enforced FPS limit for handguns, but it is suggested that they stay under the 400FPS limit

Hey. Im the 15 year old that Birdman was talking about. On the note of being of age to drive to events, my dad plays, so he takes me to whever we end up going. But definately come out to some events with us.
And pistols arent too pricy and are definately worthe every penny if you get a nice one. A green gas pistol is the best. KSC, HFC, TM, and KJW are some big names in green gas pistols.

Do you guys have a field to play at in Barrington?
On the issue with pistols, I have been playing with AEGs for almost 4 years now and aside from one we first started and I carried a spring pistol as a back up, other than that I have never carried a pistol because I have never really had the need to carry one. Although I was considering just picking up a spring pistol just for looks now.
Carrying an MP5 as a sidearm works well, its a small enough gun to be able to sling on your back, and it can provide a higher rate of fire than a pistol can.
And Birdman, on a completly pointless and unrelated not, Lauren's car got searched by the drug dog the other day at school but there was nothing in there so she is clueless to why it got alerted to her car, I dunno, I thought it funny as s**t.

No we dont have a field here, I just play in my woods in my backyard. But are spring pistols "illegal" when playing with you?

For me, as long as you have an AEG or a high powered sniper rifle, I could really care less about it, as long as its not your primary, I won't speak for the rest of the team on that, so Ill let them voice their opinions.

while playing with us when its just us, bring it, but if were are playing other teams i think most would agree not to bring it, before my time on the team, HEAT had to work hard at being a team to recongize, and a spring pistol wouldnt set us back any but wouldnt give us the greatest image to those who dont know us, even though alot of teams now do recongize us, but i have seen some guys on the field who carry and use a spring pistol

Oh it certainly isnt my primary, its not even my secondary. I've got more fifles than I can handle so that isnt a problem.

Basically, we don't mind playing with people who use them. Since members of HEAT aren't required to own a pistol, we won't mind if you have a spring one. However, we will not add spring guns to our roster and most likely nobody is going to play with it or go out if they are hit by it.
A quality AEG is one of our only strict requirements, but if you are just starting out, a mid-range gun is fun to play around with. However, if you decide to attend public events hosted by challenge park extreme or aggressive sports joliet, you will instantly want to buy something more powerful and more realistic -- I see it all the time when new players see what some of us are playing with.
If you really think you are going to like airsoft and you are going to play often, my only piece of advice is to buy the expensive stuff first and don't even bother with the mid-range gear. This way you don't have to save up for a high quality gun later or lose money trying to sell the mid-range one you bought and no longer like.
If I had bought only what I own now, I would have only spent a fraction on my airsoft expenses. Most of what I spent on airsoft I ended up selling for a cheaper price when I wanted better gear or things that I don't even need now.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

OH haha. I kinda combined my response for his question on the pistols and the topic by wikiwire about Mid-Ranged AEG's.
