I finally got a scope for my KJW M700 and have it dead on at 100' in my back yard. It can go farther but the wind has been really bad and blows most of my shots off because my yard is so open. I also added a stock shell holder but the only inert ammo I have is .223 (it still looks good though). I got a bipod but its to small to fit around the barrel so I either need to get one that fits a larger barrel or find one that mounts to the sling attachment.
The only thing I added to the saw is a 10 round belt of linked 223 ammo, it actually fit in like a glove when I opened the top of the gun and makes it look bad ass. The 10 rounds were attached to a belt of 100 and I will admit when I attached the 100 rounds to the gun I slung it over my shoulder and ran around upstairs yelling get some with the gun in one hand ammo in the other.

You need some 7.62 NATO inerts. Get those in the SAW. |
why? SAWs use .223/5.56 NATO
it wouldn't look right to have .308s in the SAW

Sorry, my mistake, I thought the SAW used 7.62.

What exactly do you think a saw is? It stands for Squad Automatic Weapon and the m249 isn't the only one.

I couldn't picture myself lugging around the full stock saw; the para, maybe. It's just too long for to shoulder fire.
The M240G is a 7.62 MMG mainly USMC, I don't know if USAR has a ground version of this. I'm sure yoroiden can answer that. It's set to replace the aging M60 (also 7.62 as has been mentioned before)

Actually the M240G is NOT used by the Rangers. The two US ground versions are the M240B and the M240G. The M240B is the Army variant, and the M240G is the Marine version. The only real difference is that the G does not have a handguard/heatshield (A real Marine will only touch a hot barrel once, so they claim).
Some of the confusion is due to some units taking vehicle mounted M240s and using them in the ground role via 'dismount' kits. For a week in Iraq I used an M240C (afv version) adapted to a quasi-M240G (had the stock and grip, but still used the vehicle charging cable, had improvised sights, and no bipod).
Anyway, the M249 SAW (the only official squad automatic in US military service) shoots belted 5.56 NATO ammo (it can take M16 mags, but is very unreliable that way). Also known as the FN Minimi. It is unreliable, and should be replaced ASAP.
The M60 GPMG shoots 7.62 NATO ammo. It is very reliable in later versions (the early ones would literally vibrate itself apart unless safetywired together). The M60E4 variant should replace the M249 SAW immediately, as it is only slightly heavier, but is shorter, can fire longer between barrel changes, and shoots the potent 7.62 NATO.
The M240 also shoots 7.62 NATO, and is the US version of the FN MAG GMPG. It is the official replacement for the M60 GPMG. It has a high rate of fire, but is heavier and less reliable than the M60 it replaced.
A full stock on the M249 isn't too bad. I've fired mustang's CA SAW from the shoulder with little trouble.

Not to confuse anyone, but we forgot about the Mk48Mod0.
Which is, in essence, a M249 SAW LMG scaled/converted from 5.56mm to 7.62mm. Which is also set to replace the M60E4.
The Mk48 weighs in at ~18.6lbs and still shorter than the standard configuration M249 or the Mk43Mod 0/1.

I didn't forget about it. I didn't mention it since it's just a variant of the existing weapon. It's really not a different weapon, just an upgrade.
Besides, it's only around in small numbers, and hasn't even been adopted by the military as it's still in testing. Just because a weapon is supposed to replace something doesn't mean it will (anyone remember the M14A1 LMG?).
Since I personally knew 3 men who died directly due to faulty FN machine guns (2 with the M249 and 1 with the M240), I'm not looking foward to anything from Fabrique Nationale.
Then again, I'm not in SOCOM, and their needs are different than mine. Like how the M4 carbine is suitable for use in regular Army units, but not for the missions SOCOM conducts.
EDIT: I just read that on January 9th, 2007, DoD awarded a $5,195,100 contract to US Ordnance to supply the Army with new M60E4 machineguns and parts. Things are looking up.
