From Midwestairsofters:

Quote::
The Battle of Khe Sanh was conducted in northwestern Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), between 21 January and 8 April 1968 during the Vietnam War. The combatants were elements of the United States (U.S.) III Marine Amphibious Force (III MAF) and two to three division-size elements of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). The American command in South Vietnam gave the defense of the base the nickname Operation Scotland.

The American command in Saigon initially believed that combat operations around Khe Sanh during the summer of 1967 were just part of a series of minor North Vietnamese offensives in the border regions. That appraisal was altered when it was discovered that PAVN was moving major forces into the area during the fall and winter. A build-up of Marine forces took place and actions around Khe Sanh commenced when the Marine base was isolated. During a series of desperate actions that lasted 77 days, Khe Sanh Combat Base (KSCB) and the hilltop outposts around it were under constant North Vietnamese ground and artillery attacks.

During the battle a massive aerial bombardment campaign (Operation Niagara) was launched by the U.S. Air Force to support the Marine base. This campaign utilized the latest technological advances in order to locate PAVN forces for targeting. The logistical effort to support KSCB, once it was isolated overland, demanded the implementation of other tactical innovations in order to keep the Marines supplied.

In March 1968, an overland relief expedition (Operation Pegasus) was launched by a combined Marine/Army/South Vietnamese task force that eventually broke through to the Marines at Khe Sanh. The battle itself was a tactical victory for the Marines, but the strategic implications of the battle still remain unclear...

This month we are going to be doing a Vietnam era scenario game. This is to honor all those who have served our country in the past as well as the present. I am a big history buff and this month is also my birthday so this will also be Destro's Birthday Bash! We will be serving cake and be doing a raffle again as well.

PAVN- any non-green based BDU as well as civilian clothing. Black/tan/brown/purple/MC (just for BP) will all go on PAVN. We expect as usual the PAVN side will be outnumbered. We will compensate for this in other ways... VC/PAVN will have radio channels 8+

US- any green based BDU but tiger stripe and solid OD were the 'norm of the day... ACU may get bumped to PAVN to help even out teams. US will have radio channels 4-7.

Normal field rules apply: 400FPS for full auto AEGs. We will strictly adhere to these limits. 401+ will be allowed semi auto only. 401-450 fps semi auto only with a 50' minimum engagement distance. 451-500 fps will be allowed for bolt action/single shot replicas only. These weapons will have a 75' minimum engagement distance.

We will be using a simplified medic rule this game. Medic kits are too expensive and cumbersome on such a large game. We will be doing a medic rope. The medic will be given a section of rope about 3' long. To heal a wounded player the medic must go to the player and tie three knots in the rope while the wounded player holds it. We will only be allowing one medic heal between respawns.

Vehicle rules- this game will have a pair of vehicles in action. To destroy a vehicle one must use either a satchel charge or a rocket (nerf). A 40mm grenade with bbs will not destroy a vehicle but it will disable it (it can still fire but not move for 5 minutes). The respawn of each vehicle will be as follows: The vehicle will remain stationary once destroyed for 5 minutes. If a vehicle is taken out (destroyed) it can respawn by driving to the motor pool. Whatever team controls the motor pool when the vehicle enters the motor pool to respawn will gain control of the vehicle. A vehicle that is disabled will remain stationary for 5 minutes but can continue to shoot. After 5 minutes the vehicle will be able to move as normal. Vehicles will be able to destroy each other with MG fire to the rear of the other vehicle only. Players must at all times stay 5' or more away from any vehicle in motion. Troops may only enter or exit a stationary vehicle.

Satchel charges- there will be satchel charges in play. Only those charges given by a ref will be valid satchel charges. The charges detonate on impact and may be used to take out vehicles or bunkers. They will have a 25' kill radius (10' behind walls- this only applies if you are behind a wall that is between you and the satchel charge).

Rockets- Rockets will be allowed. Nerf rockets are not to be fired at players, only at vehicles and bunkers. A rocket will destroy a vehicle and has a 10' kill radius against players (including behind walls as they are shaped charges).

Time hacks-

Time Hacks:
8:00 Field Opens
8:15 Registration Begins
8:30 Chrono opens
9:00 US brief and squad assignments
9:30 PAVN brief and squad assignments
10:00 Safety Brief and Enter Field
10:30 Exercise Live
10:30 First Mission
13:00-14:00 No Missions, Lunch in Field
16:00 End Exercise.

$28 says the Ghost Marines will run as USMC.

Since my team's uniform is desert tiger, we'll be running as PAVN.

That being the case, I'll be (hopefully-$$$) putting together a PAVN loadout, pick up an AK, and go as a soldier from the 9th Regiment, 304th Division of the People's Army of Vietnam.

For Uncle Ho!

The paintball mask game was earlier today at Realms of Ruin.

This game is standard Blast Camp goggles.

Freeze, who do you plan on running with this game? It looks like most of my team won't be able to make this game. How would you feel about running with me and some of my buddies?

Sorry 1337, I got called in to help "train" a new person at work, and no one from my team is planning on attending either, so I won't be attending. Thanks for the offer though, I appreciate it.

Yoroiden, was it you that I played with at this game? It just occurred to me that we might have played together and I didn't know it was you. If so, you had an awesome uniform!

Yep, that was me and my new team (the one in black and two in desert tiger stripe). I thought that was you when we did intros, which is why I said I knew you as "leet".

Your uniform wasn't too bad either (could pass off the desert pants as just being dirty).

Yeah... I don't usually wear a lot of camo, to be honest. I decided rather last minute to be VC instead of US, so that was the best I had. I probably looked more like a middle-eastern insurgent than a VC soldier.

Nice meeting ya, hope to see you out there again soon.
