Hi my name is Kyle, I'm 16 and I live in Schaumburg. I have a broken UHC spring gun, and since its broken I have been looking at new weapons. I'm looking at a Vietnam type setup with a TM M16VN and some sort of M1911A1. I might order the gun in a month or so.

Hi, welcome to the site. I recently got into the Vietnam look as well and I bought a Classic Army M15A4. I think if CA made a VN version of the gun I would have bought it, but they dont and I wasnt going to settle for a Tokyo Marui gun. TM doesnt have a metal body and there are still many things about TM that made me stay with CA.
My friend and I also considered some vietnam-style bdu's, but we weren't going to pay for a whole new set of BDU's.

why vietnam? the guns are a bit more uncomfortable. the triangle heatguard is not really that comfortable. i like the round once better. and the clips are shorter. but then its kinda of going back in time a bit. why not go WWII. i think a match of WWII guns would be pretty awsome. anyway welcome here. great site and great team this is.

Heres my little story that goes about telling how I got into the vietnam style gear.
I recently tried on a vest for airsoft. I thought it was way too uncomfortable. Then I thought about the Playstation2 game Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater how the main character of the game has all of his gear on a belt. So I posted on the airsoftretreat forums how you could go about getting a rig like that, I posted a couple pictures and they all told me there was vietnam style pouches on the belt. Then someone suggested a M16VN to go with the gear. I have been looking at numerous reviews and websites for the gun and thought with a light upgrade it should suit me well.

i see. well thats a good story.
ive held something similiar and its just not comfortable, for me at least. i dont know about you guys, but i dont think its that comfortable. and the gear of todays soldiers look better in my opinion. the one from vietnam is too, empty i guess. but its really the way you like it. now im talking about realy guns. not the airsofts. i dont know, maybe the airsoft m15 vn is more comfortable, but not in realy life to me.

I've fired the real ones (pretty much every version that was US standard issue at some time), and both the beavertail (triangle) and round handguards have their advantages. The beavertail being better for use off of sandbags, and the round ones are stronger.
Anyway...
If you want to be truely 'Nam authentic, then get the M-16A1. The so-called M16VN is just the early AR-15/M-16 that was completely phased out by 1967 and was replaced by the much more reliable XM-16E1/M-16A1. A website I suggest for 'Nam era gear is www.mooremilitaria.com and is one of the better 'Nam surplus sites. Prices are rather high though, so it's better for reference. I've actually got a 'Nam setup myself, using my M-14 and XM-177.
Also, Adam, you've already got part of the uniform for Vietnam. Remember when I first met HEAT and mentioned your BDU pants weren't standard BDU? That's because they're the ERDL 'Leaf' pattern camo that first came out in 1967.
If people are really interested in doing 'Nam setups, I can do an article or something on the kind of uniforms and equipment that are accurate to the war in Vietnam, along with some websites for reference.

I agree! Cant wait until MGS4 and the release of the PSP PS1 emulator. You can play MGS1 on the portable.
