hey it's shadow here and i wanna ask a quesiton. My ICS AK-47 was pissing me off today because it wasnt even keeping up with my friends Crosman Pulse rifle. I was fighting him and he was shooting through brush and trees and crap and i was like omg wtf. I'm talknig thick brush and i was like forget it shot full auto at the brush didnt go through. I ended up killnig him but it took alot of effort. Then when he said i shot him he said it didn't hurt and that made me made kus i wasn't that far away we i got him with a burst of 3. So I did some thinking about upgrading it because its just not cutting it. So the first thing i thought of was a tighter bore barrel. Would that help any? If not, what do you reccomend?
Thank You

hmm i dont think that would help you pass teh bushes, but it will certainly make it alot alot more accurate. it will be fuch easier to hit targets, and will increase ur fps. but if u will get one, get a 120 spring so it will shoot harder threough branches and pass threw. thats my opinion. and i think thats what will happen.

as far as i know tighter bore barrels focus more on increasing ROF and accuracy rather than FPS... there is a slight increase though... my second thought is that you should clean out your barrel with a silicon lube... if none of that works maybe you should consider playing somwhwere else if there is anywhere

the barrel i was looknig at is 40 bucks and how much would that spring be? Because i don't got alot of money right now im doing some work to bring my money back up from buying the AK- 47. Im 14 so don't think i make money fast i ended up earning 70 dollars in 2 days by working on a rental house for minimum wage. So how much is the spring? And axis yes i thought about about gun lubes, and silicones but I have never done it before so i was afraid to buy it because I was afraid i would mess somthing up and neither do i know how to put in a new spring or barrel so im just gonna try to get help for that part.

I've had a tightbore in a g36 when I was shooting rougly 380 f.p.s., and I don't think that I was shooting through bushes. In fact, I know I wasn't. Because I would shoot at the bushes when people were behind them, and they weren't being hit. Honestly, airsoft guns were never meant to beable to shoot through thick brush and stuff. I've had buddies shoot at me with their STAR L85s through thick grass, and they weren't still hitting me. I don't think your buddies gun f.p.s. has much to do with shooting through bushes, but that he was just getting lucky and getting the bbs through. So I wouldn't reccommend a tightbore inner barrel unless you plan on shooting semi and high f.p.s.'s. I never liked shooting semi only with mine so I just took it out because it would mis-feed a lot more with the tight bore in.

But then again you still have to take in effect that kind of gun that you have. I read that you have an ICS. I've heard from numerous well trusted and very experienced airsofters that ICS guns usually don't take upgrades very well. They've all said that they work great stock, but once you start upgrading them, you have to upgrade everything in order for it to work good. Your gun may be different, but I'm just trying to give you a heads up so you don't have any surprises.

i aree with deadeye airsoft guns aren't meant to shoot through bushes that why you wait to take your shots... also to go with the ics thing my stock mp5 was shooting 394fps after a good cleaning... to go back to what shadow_soldier said theirs really no special technique as to cleaning a barrel just us ur cleaning rod and some lint free cloth then spraying lube down the barrel follwed by a good wipe down inside and out

so Full auto/burst would not work well with a tight in barrel? just semi?

Actually to clean a barrel, you really should have the hop-up turned all of the way down before you stick anything in the barrel to clean it. If you don't, it could ruin your hop-up and that wouldn't be good at all. And I could be wrong about that ICS thing, but I just said what I've learned from listening to other people that I trust.

Oh, and back to cleaning the barrel. Be sure that your rod is plastic, NOT METAL. Metal could scratch the heck out of the barrel, and then your accuracy would go way down the drain. Hey Shadow, if you would like some help with cleaning your gun or upgrading it, I could help you with all of that. I've done it all multiple times, and it's always worked out great for me. If you would like some help, just p.m. me, and we can work something out.

Well im dumb so tell me this is a cleaning rod the same thing you use to un-jam your gun? Like i said i have never siliconed a barrel or upgraded jsut whenever i wanted somthing stronger i bought somthing stronger so first i started plastic gears plastic body, then metal gears plastic body, and now with my ICS its full metal. So like i said ive never upgraded. Now im thinking of just upgrading this gun because im tired of wasting money.

No, an un-jamming rod is not the same thing as a cleaning rod. A cleaning rod would have a kind of oval loop on the end of it so you could thread some sort of cloth through it to collect the dust and stuff. I have all of the stuff at my house here, so if you want I could show you how to do it and all.

Auto and burst can work in a tightbore. But it ain't gonna do jack for the RoF. If it's a good barrel then it can increase your FPS. I don't know how much more, depends on the barrel and the gun it's in. But if you do get a tightbore, then you will need to get good bbs (not saying you don't, I don't know what you use).

As for cleaning, I actually just use the Otis cleaning kit I was issued in Iraq for my M-16A2, though I use silicon lube instead of CLP. The cleaning cable (yes, a flexible cable) has metal ends and the cleaning patch loops are metal, but I haven't had any scratching problems. Maybe I'm just lucky.

And don't worry about not being able to shoot through heavy brush. We use lightweight plastic bbs in airsoft. The standard XM-193 round used in the real M-16A1 (and earlier) had the same problem. And that had a muzzle velocity of over 3200 fps. But if it's still a problem for you, just get a good tightbore and stronger spring, then use 'heavy' bbs.

A tightbore barrel will get you a few more FPS, and maybe a little tighter grouping at range. That's about it.

The way I look at it is, if you can't hit anything with a stock barrel, getting a tightbore barrel isn't gonna change much.

Just remember, tightbores cause as many issues as the benefits they provide. If you plan to do a lot of winter skirmishing, or you don't play at ranges typically more than a hundred feet, save your money and buy durable gearbox upgrades instead.

some cleaning and un-jamming rods are opp. ends. so one end would be cleaning and the other unjaming. my ak has that. i think ur fine without a tightbore berrel, unless you want to be very accurate with it, and its really going to be a little diffrence on full auto. ( what you should do instead is throw a bunch of bb's with ur hand over teh bush, so tehy land on him and he thinks his hit ) LOL.

for the spring it only costs 14 or 15 $. but it takes some skill to get it in since you have to take your gun apart. or have someone else do it.

yea but i dont think i wanna upgrade just clean out the barrel if that will help is much as you guys say it will. I just want it to be able to keep up with CA's, G&G's, and TM's because i has higher expectations of it and thought it would. I don't really want to upgrade now because of what deadeye said about ICS guns not taking upgrades very well. And birdman ive already tried it won't let me change anything on my profile i don't know why.

is ur ak old... cuz me and sureshot have the exact same guns and his shoots like crap compared to mine (his is around 350 tops and mine topped out at 394) sometims heavy usage just wears ur gun out maybe a new spring wouldn't be such a bad idea...ebay has m120 springs for around 10 bucks if you want to save a tiny bit of money...ur ak should have no problem with other highh qualityt aegs if you just perform some basic matinence
