Many valid points by a lot of you, and Breech even quoted me...
The truth of the matter is that, as Freeser put it - the Airsoft community in Chicago is so splintered right now that nothing any one little "splinter group" does is going to change anything.
One letter with 18 signatures is a joke. It'll do more harm to airsoft at CPX than good - and the only good that can come out of CPX is for that place to either a), ban airsoft completely, or b)burn to the ground in it's entirety and be gone forever, never to return.
Airsoft will not survive in a paintball field - the older and more experienced you get in this hobby, the faster you will realize it. CPX will probably move to abandon airsoft in it's entirety very soon - or worse, they'll try to capitalize it more in the only way they know how - by treating it even more like paintball.
I have a funny feeling soon you'll have to buy "field BB's" to use at CPX, and they'll hold tournament games...That'll be great for groups like the AC kids, but hardcore MILSIM players will stay far far away.
But, to bring about another point, which invariably adds itself to this great web of problems with airsoft in Illinois - the splintered groups. Maybe it's because we all have a layer of permafrost for brain tissue, but things have become so broken that the camps will probably never resolve their differences. This too, adds to the problem with places like CPX - if airsoft in Illinois was unified, we'd have far more bargaining power to bring to the table than a poorly proofread and written letter (not to harp on the letter, but it lacks a professional business to business effect which is desperately needed).
Now for my personal opinion...
By soliciting a venue like CPX, you affectivley turn airsoft into what CPX wants it to be, which in turn affects the way the entire airsoft community is treated by other paintball fields and organizations. By showing that you accept what CPX has set down as "rules" shows that if other places follow their lead, they'll still get your business. So by supporting something you don't agree with (like CPX), you're affectively shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to dealing with other parks like RoR (which already has the same ludicrous behaviors like CPX when it comes to policies). You really want to change the way these places treat you? Take your hobby elsewhere.
In my opinion, the only way airsoft will survive this onslaught of paintsofting kids is to go farther away from the public eye.
If HEAT is ever interested in participating in the more privatized MILSIM games in the area, let me know, and I'll pass on all the details to Toggle to share with you.
