the gun i am going to get (vfc m416) only has a 10 inch inner barell but it comes with both a 10 and 14 inch outer barrel. So i was wondering if i should get a longer inner barrel (about 420mm) and then just use a silencer to cover it up

Also... 1) are the benefits of a tightbore worth it
2) can you use any typ of barrel ie.. ak barrel on an m4
3) can anyone do barrel upgrades

...this is axis on sureshots account...he forgot to log out so i'm writing it here

The VFC 416 is a sweet looking gun. Before you spend all the cash on tightbore barrel and silencer. You should play with the gun a little bit and see if you really need to upgrade it. Its a $450 dollar gun right? so it shouldn't need to be upgraded right away.

axis i can do the upgrade, and you gain a few FPS, i havent used my G36 much with the upgraded barrel so i cant tell you about the accrucay, but i decided to use my G36 for OP Take Down instead of buying a rail system for my M4, and there are no specific barrels for a gun. just length. but if you are going to get a new internal barrel i think prothymus or whatever is the best to go, but i dont remember, double check with someone else

well my first thought was to try the gun out likephilapean_21 said but i was definetly gonna buy a spring for it right away(PDI 170%).

as far as what brand i was looking into a systema 420mm, right now i'm more concerned with length than the tightness of the barrel since i don't always have "high quality" bb's available and i really don't want to spend that much either

edit: birdman how much would you charge for the upgrades?

Systema barrels are alright. And there just that, alright. I would say, that if you're willing to spend $450 on just the rifle, than go for the better brands. Like the Promo. barrel, or the KM barrels. They are better quality.

And i would also recommend waiting to get the barrel. VFC might already have an upgraded barrel in it. You never know.

i looked at the manufactureres sight and all they mentioned was a 7mm gearbox and an eg1300 motor, i as far as i know it's not a tightbore, i was also looking at a STAR brand barrel or even a mad bull, i like the systema because it's the perfect size for both barrel lenghths. (meaning the the silencer can cover it if i use the short or long barrel)

i'm also getting a pdi 170% spring about 350-380fps so i don't really want a barrel that is tight like a km or prometheus and like i said before i don't always hav a bag of high quality bag of .2 bb's like excel or systema so i want a barrel that won't be to pickky with what i am shooting

If you're not going to be using high quality bbs, then you might as well stick with the stock barrel. If you use a tightbore barrel with low quality bbs, then sooner or later you're going to have a jam. It's not a question of IF, but of WHEN. I have a Systema tightbore, and even that has had jams when using low quality bbs. Besides, VFC has a reputation for quality, so it might have a tightbore already. It would be a good idea to try it out, as is, before you do the upgrades.

You can also just get a 14inch/~363mm inner barrel, and avoid having to get a silencer to cover a long barrel.

And if you are going to push the fps over 350, you might want to get bbs heavier than .20. Something like .25 bbs.

Ricky, I think you need to put more time into it (meaning think about it). And next time you go on my account, I will come to your house and rip you damn head off throw it out the window, saw your arm off and beat you over the head with it.

Yea, nothing sucks more than a bb jammed in the barrel. I stripped the stock piston in my gun because of a bb jam. For some reason the black airsoft elite .20g bb's don't want to cooperate with my gun.

one thing i am hearing from people is to try it out before i uprade it so i will definetly do that...

back to what yoroiden said, i also thought of getting just an m4 barrel (i would still need a silencer to cover it on the 10 inch version) and i was gonna start using PHX .23g bb's (or.25 if necessary) from ASGI

i was looking on evike and they sell STAR brand barrels. they are the widest bore the i have seen(6.05mm) so i might go witht that or the sytema (those are also the best price)

i'm still kind of new to airsoft(about a year) so if i sound kind of repetitive or dumb it's cause i don't know everything and haven't had expirience with these subjects...

Yeah, its ok. Im a noob too. I've never been to an organized game, I just play in backyard with my buddies. All i do is tinker with mech boxes most the time. I've been in the hobby for only a year. Oh, and sorry for telling you guys my life story, and being off topic.

i have decided to hold off on the barrel...i will however still buy the spring and the silencer (becuase it's so badass) i think i will wait for my birthday in june so i can have plenty of of time to see what it is capable of, thanks for all the advice, i would still like to hear about your guns and how they perform if they have tightbores...

My M14 has a Systema 6.04 575mm PSG-1 tightbore (was 590mm, but I cut it down as it showed in the flash suppressor). Combined with an M120 spring, and PHX .28 bbs, I've been pushing it as close as I can to sniper class, but staying within aeg limits. I know it still can use some work, but I was able to use it as a counter-sniper weapon in several games against dedicated snipers, most notably Red Dawn 2. Though part of that had to do with how I operated, and an apparent lack of skill on the part of the snipers.

I'd say if you prefer to use accurate fire against your opponents, then maybe invest in a tightbore and good bbs. If you prefer to use volume fire, stick with the stock barrel.

But that's just my take on it. Others will have their own experiences to draw on.

have you (or anyones else) ever used PHX .25 bb's cause ASGI has a pretty good deal (3 bags for 36$) other than that i was just going to buy matrix .25's (which are pretty good if they are anything like the .2 bb they make)

I have a bag of their .25s, but haven't tried 'em yet. I have used around 7,000 or so of their .28s, and love 'em, never had any trouble. If the .25s are as good as the .28, then they should work just fine.
