Oh. I've seen videos of those competitions before and I just watched the one axis linked us with. I don't think I would want one for airsoft or something military, but if I ever bought a real steel pistol, I would consider one.

even though they are incredibly appealing, they are just to unpractical unless you use them for what they intended for (check the video). i would probably rather have something like a glock or a usp for airsoft

it's about preferences and on certian cases, necessity. you, generally speaking, may not have a preference of a rds on a pistol, but competitions like ipsc would some times necessitate the need for a rds. having a rds could get you the split second lead over the competition who doesn't have the rds on his pistol. i certainly don't see the point of a rds in combat style shooting though.

Like Ghostraven said, red dots on race pistols make sense.

In an event like that, anything that helps you get bullets on the target and rapid acquisition is bonus - these guys are talking about shaving tenths of seconds off their scores...

i see your point. if you are an expert shooter, you should be able to just point and shoot. now i will admit, if i needed that split second shoot time, i would use a red dot sight, but i would think after a while i would be so used to the gun and the shooting that i would not even need sights. i dunno, i'm sure we have all seen that guy who shoots really fast from the hip, and he can stuff dead on.

that guy that shoots from the hip is in a different league than the shooters at ipsc events. he doesn't have to shave 1/1000th of a sec off the time to shoot the doves falling to the ground. ipsc shooters have to, on top of running from one station to another. i have seen ipsc shooter shoot w/o rds on their pistols but they were shooting from only one station.

Hey, even a great shot likes having things easier. That's what red dots do.

It is no different really than having a red dot on your rifle - faster acquisition of the target to engage it and move on.
