I don't know if you guys have everseen or heard of these, anyways they are vintage flash cubes used on cameras back in the day. I was tinkering with these lastnight trying to take it apart and get the bulbs out and then.....flash! to my surprise 4 bulbs went off in my face. I was seeing blue dots for a few minutes wondering how they went off without electricity? I still don't know ,but i had a crazy idea to toss another one on the kitchen counter where my friend was making something to eat. And just as i thought all four sides of the cube went off at the same time, temporally blinding my friend for a few seconds. Anyways, is there a chance these can be useful in cqb? Like for example, throwing like 3 of these at the same time(they are like 50 cents a piece) near an ememy? They are not dangerous at all and are disposable so you dont have to worry about finding them. They may seem silly when you look at them, but they do work. The pic is off the internet and I will try to take pics of my own and post them.

You know those little fireworks you throw on the ground..or people.. and they pop? Snaps? I dunno sumthing like that. These cubes are pretty much same concept, you throw them and they pop and flash. I wish i had more of these because I can't stop throwing them. How do i upload a small video?

here is what wikipedia has to say about them:
Flashcubes, Magicubes and Flipflash"In the late 1960s, Kodak improved their Instamatic camera line by replacing the individual flashbulb technology (used on early Instamatics) with the Flashcube. Flashcubes consisted of four electrically fired flashbulbs with an integral reflector in a cube-shaped arrangement that allowed taking four images in a row. The flashcube automatically rotated 90 degrees to a fresh bulb upon advancing the film to the next exposure.
The later Magicube retained the four-bulb format, and was superficially similar to the original Flashcube. However, in the Magicube each bulb was set off by a plastic pin in the cube mount that released a cocked spring within the bulb. This in turn struck a piezoelectric element in the flash that ignited the magnesium filament, so that a battery was not required. Magicubes could also be set off by inserting a thin object, such as a key or paper clip, into one of the slots in the bottom of the cube."
...now that you've read that it explaines why you don't need an electrical current to ignite them

I think sureshot and birdman are too excited about the event this weekend to read carefully haha. Anyways, the grenades sound like a great device for airsoft and I bet SFC Martyn can make them integrated to a flashbang shell for realism. That's cool that you can get the RC remote to trigger it; maybe you can find a way to time delay them now.
If we can find a restaurant near Chicago that stays open late, we will be all set for our next airsoft night. I know there are places that are open way past midnight, but we need a suitable place to talk for a while.

i don't think you can just, "pick some up" since that technology is very old, but if you had an ebay account you could buy them by the hundreds!!!

that's not how ebay works... but i might buy some just for kicks, i know a couple antique/pawn shops and there is a big ritz camera downtown (i think that's what it is) that sells everything camera related.
