Brand new to Airsoft and will be getting my CA M15A4 with RIS in a couple weeks.
I've never played Airsoft but have experience with squad based tactics through my time in the US Army as an Airborne Combat Engineer.
I'm near Randall Rd and Huntley so not too far from Hoffman Estates.
Do people get together somewhat regularly for practice?
Hope to meet you all soon.
Take care,
- Steve

Hey, welcome to the website. I think you're really going to enjoy the CA M15; I have their m15a4 rifle and it's amazing. Our team holds private practices out in Barrington, but we are currently not hosting any public events. Instead, we attend games hosted by Challenge Park Extreme or Aggressive Sports Joliet which are open to everyone. You can check out our Game Attendance page for a list of upcoming events and a list of who on our website is going.
PS: If you have any photos of yourself in the army, feel free to upload them. I bet the other members would like to see them.

Great to hear from you guys.
ADMIN: I'll try to post pics. I just moved to this area so all my crap is still in boxes. But once I dig some photos up I'll post them as suggested.
MUSTANGPWR/BIRDMAN: Yeah, I'd like to meet and learn more about Airsoft. I'm pretty clueless with this stuff but learning.
GHOSTRAVEN: We should connect. I'm sure we can find an open field to shoot around in. I have anoher buddy that lives behind Lifetime Fitness that doesn't have airsoft but offered to kick our @sses with his paintball gun. (ha ha ha)
YOROIDEN: I'm out of the Army now, but when I was in I was attached to the 652nd Engineer Company. I met some great guys in the service. A friend of mine who I met at jump school is still in (but is Navy) and is not an instructor at BUD/S.

hey Steve welcome. I've got a group of guys in Elk Grove Village not too far from you and we hold a game every sunday. most of the guys on this site don't condone where we play because we don't have written permission, only verbal permission. it's understandable, but if you're willing to play at your own risk you're welcome to come check out a game. If not, maybe we'll see you at one of the sanctioned fields in the area.
a couple of those parks you can check out are
www.cpxsports.com
www.realmsofruin.com
www.foxpaintball.com
welcome to the site, and to our wonderful sport

just a heads up steve, airsoft is illegal in public places/ forest preserves. we as a team dont recommend it, because to spend 300 dollars on a gun then have it taken away and get a ticket isnt worth it. and airsoft is in the public eye because of people not treating it as a ligitament sport and just go around shooting people or bringing their airsoft guns to school, i think i speak for all airsofters who love this sport when i ask for you to reconsider just going out into an open field and just shooting each other, at least get written premission from lifetime fittness or something if they will give it to you, if not then i dont recommend playing there

Thanks for telling me the pros and cons of this issues. I had no idea it's illegal in public places/forest preserves. That's good to know.
What about paintball. Is that illegal in public places/forest preserves as well?
So if you get a ticket and your weapon taken away, it would seem to be more appropriate to just play an all pistol game so if we do get caught they simply take away $100 gas blow back weapons rather than $300+ AEGs.
My weapon is backordered anyway and I won't receive for about 3 weeks...so I can't play crap until it arrives.

My buddy is stationed in Coronado, CA and has been an instructor at BUD/S for about 6 years now.
I've been reading some rules at the parks and it seems like my weapon velocity can't exceed 400 fps. I may be right at the edge because the description states 420 fps. www.hobbytron.com/Elec...R004M.html
Maybe there's a way to simply change out the spring to a less powerful one when I play at these events perhaps. I would hate to drive all the way to an event only to end up clocking my weapon above the 400 fps limit. That would be a huge bummer...all geared up and noplace to shoot.
Yeah, we should connect soon. I'm pretty booked up for the next couple weeks with the move, changing jobs, and stuff...
Plus, I may see if the pack of coyotes in my backyard like my 420 fps as "practice"

i wish it was really easy but unfortunealty you have to know what your doing or you will break the gun, and yea i do believe it is illegal to paintball in public areas. also, just because the it says 420 doesnt mean it really shoots 420. the only way to really know is if you chrono the gun, and as far as the coyotes go, just dont let anyone see you cuase im pretty sure you could be arrested for animal crulity. i used mine to get raid of a racoon, and hopefully we can get another "airsoft night" going

sureshot's dad has the same gun in the full stock version and the fastest i've ever seen is around 370fps stock so you really shouldn't worry about it.
...you probably shouldn't shoot coyotes (maybe one or two shots)...

I must have made a typo. I never meant to type "shoot coyotes" I meant to type "sh!t cojones".
Simple mistake...

i've never seen a stock CA aeg go higher than mid 300s... they might have chrono'd that with .12 and not the standard .2s which would explain the over 400 fps
ever taken care of grass and make it all green only to be eaten away by rabbits and have dead spots cause they burrow under? well not in my yard! i chase them away with my aeg. now my only problem is all the bbs get sucked by the mower all the time and you can hear it.
btw, i read through hobbytron's description of that CA rifle and it doesn't mention anything about the peq battery box or ris covers. can you still cancel your order from them? i would cancel and order through other e-stores. i saw it on evike.com for $15 more - which from what i can tell is what you're paying for shipping at hobbytron - i think shipping is still free at evike for orders over 100. only downside is you don't get a battery or charger. both of which costs less than aftermarket peq boxes. you would need a peq box for the rifle you chose since it's collapsible stock.

what's a peq box? (sorry for the FNG question)
Also, what's the link to the same weapon on the other site? I used a 5% coupon and got $20 off my total order (ordered an extra 300rd mag and bbs)
