"Naperville Police and school authorities are disciplining two more Jefferson Junior High School students for bringing their toy guns to school.

"This one never got to school, fortunately," Lt. Dave Hoffman said.

While riding the bus to school Monday morning, two 15-year-old Jefferson eighth-graders fired pellets at each other from a "soft pellet" look-alike weapon. The students were arrested and charges are pending, Hoffman said.

"The pellets struck only the two students involved, and no injuries were sustained," Jefferson Principal Mark Pasztor said in a message e-mailed to parents Monday afternoon. "No other students on the JJHS campus were in any danger."

Pasztor said school authorities and the Naperville Police Department, who are investigating the incident, are determining the appropriate disciplinary action.

It was the second incident of this sort at Jefferson this school year.

In late November, another Jefferson student was caught carrying a similar look-alike weapon that could fire only plastic pellets. A classmate spotted the eighth-grade boy loading the toy gun outside the school, at 1525 N. Loomis St. on Naperville's north side.

Illinois law prohibits air rifles, such as pellet or BB guns, in public places. It also does not allow anyone younger than 13 to possess them. Naperville's disorderly conduct ordinance prohibits anyone from carrying a look-alike weapon."

Go ahead and move to Canada. Last I heard airsoft altogether was illegal there. I really think there needs to be some sort of information packet put together that you have to read when you get one. maybe it'll keep kids from being stupid like this. Unneccessary? Maybe. Useful? Yes.

Airsoft is still legal in Canada, but they have airsoft laws similar to those in the UK (mainly concerning fps restrictions for various kinds of airsoft guns).

Problem with a packet is, how many people will actually take the time to read it and take it's lessons to heart?

i know i wont read a packet. why would any other kid read it. especially when most kids today are diagnosed with some sort of ADD

Steve that's probably very true. But packets in an airsoft box are going to be like packets that kida are supposed to read for a new bike or something. They see the stickers saying "wear a helmet", but they never do. When they see "NOT a toy. Respect it as such", they are going to think that they will not get caught or it doesnt matter. I know Im under 18, but start making more age requirments for guns and inform the parents more.

LIttle matt, I'm sure glad you're smart. The packet thing was just an idea. Seriously though, how could we, as responsible members of this sport, educate members of the public who may be interested in airsoft, or see it being played?

Positive media! Contact a news channel to do a positive story on airsoft as a sport, maybe with an aim of educating people? You never know, it may help.

If it bleeds, it leads, the media never does a positive news story as is nowadays, so I would die from amazement if the media decided to show Airsoft of all things in a positive light.

Thats just stupid thing to do, and as for packets, the first airsoft gun I got...I was forced to read it, when i got my first pistol, I read the packet by myself..Even if i order a gun right now...and it'll come in 2 days...Ill still read the packet, but there are a lot of idiots who don't which is why airsoft is banned in some places.

Bringing airsoft guns to school, not reading packets,brandishing guns in public...thats what...just ruins reputation of airsoft i hope i made my point.

That's why we're talking about a way to edumacate peoples to NOT be stupid.

I still blame the parents.

If the parents beat their spoiled offspring as children, they would have been raised with some respect and common sense.

Or if they acted like parents and took responsibilty and kept the guns away from their idiot children. Cause a responsible parent will only give a gun to a resposible child, cause as the responsible parent you have taught your child that bringing a toy gun to school is bad.

I know at 15 I had some sense about me, but as we can see these children don't. If I was 15 and brought even a water gun to school, my parents would have hung me.

The children and parents should both get punished for this.

And as for reading the packet. Well any responsible airsoft player, no matter the age or profession, should read all the info possible. I mean we burn kids for not doing some research about what gun to buy, we of all people should read all the print about our guns.

Plus what harm can come from educating yourself? even if its about having an airsoft gun.

i live in gurnee and they already made a law that you can own a air rifle/ airsoft gun but cant discharge it on village property which baisicly illigalizes airsoft an they sent out a flyer that i read that said there were no sales restricktions on airsoft guns i think it was a bad and uneducated choice as for these kids im 14 aqnd know not to have an airsoft gun in public these kids are retarded and there parents should have tought them better

Um there is a packet included, at least in all the ones I have purchased. Unfortunately, I cannot read Japanese yet, but I am smart enough to follow pictures; i.e., watch your background, don't shoot at animals, don't shoot 'ghetto style' (firing the gun sideways) etc, shoot with eye protection, treat it as loaded until verified it's not. It's basic common sense, not rocket science.

For every positive that can be mentioned with regards to airsoft; training the military for combat (AHAT) or law enforcement uses for training (Asylum with FPPD SWAT / plus real world traffic stop scenarios) you have five or more negatives which is going to get shown. Like Kev said earlier, if it bleeds it leads; examples including the dumbasses shooting each other on a bus, bringing a gun to a school then drawing it on a cop. (Orlando Fl last year) playing airsoft in a forest preserve somewhere. Breaking into a house, stealing a bunch of crap including a airsoft pistol, then have police chase you for four blocks hopping fences and hiding under decks, 'cause it seemed cool to do in CS, or BF97.

Heh, all packets/manuals I have have both English/and Japanese/Chinese, but pictures are moron-proof, sadly not many people will bother to read them.

This and other similar events tick me off because of the stupidity and ignorance of people. I feel helpless because people like us are ( I hope) responsible with their airsoft guns are in a sense taking the heat of retards' actions. There should be some sort of safety class that people have to take to recieve certification that they can be responsible with airsoft guns. I am at a lost at what to do about the shmucks. I would hate to see airsoft banned all together.

Funny thing Baupdeth, I was reading that old thread the day before you posted this....

We have to face it, we can sit here and argue this till death agian, as we did last time, but its still not going to change the fact that low end airsoft guns are easly accesible to those kids who would use it irresponsibly.

We have to be thankfull though that we have a great group of Police officers in this country who can handle situations like this in the right way, and that the fact that no matter how hard we want it to, the media will almost never potray airsoft in a positive light.

On a side note, Baupdeth, when are you going to come out to a game, I want to see that M60 in action!

But I must say this high end guns are available the easy way too, some of my friends stole their parents credit card's and bought themselves 600+ guns like CA M203, or VFC Barrett, And many companies don't require adult signature, I ordered from Evike, and AirsoftGI,Kastway, they didn't require a signature, the guy just told me to sign and that's it.

That may be, but it's not the high-end guns that are being used by the stuipid kids getting themselves shot by police; it's the cheap crap guns you can get at Dick's, Walmart, and Gamer's Paradise for under $20.
