Operation: Southern Fury
Location: Caracas, Venezuela
21 July, 2007
Situation:
Having once again secured electoral authority of the Venezuelan government either by legitimate or corrupt means, Presidente Hugo Chavez has become ever emboldened in his own personal cold war against the United States. He has called for the all out denial of services and cessation of oil-flow by the world’s major oil producing nations to the United States. Recent admission of Venezuela into the “OPEN10” or the “Oil Producing Euro-American Nations -10 members” has given this once hollow threat very sharp teeth. The OPEN10 is a recent coalition of states unsympathetic to America’s role as a superpower in the world. Sensing that the only way to control the United States is through its oil trade, 10 of the largest oil producing nations have banded together to control the flow of oil to America.
To that end, the President of the United States has authorized a complete political and economic embargo upon the country of Venezuela. This has only provided fuel for Chavez’ fiery attitude against the US. Recently, two US oil tankers outbound from Venezuela were seized by the Venezuelan Government and their crew being held for political ransom. This is seen as the last straw by the current administration and it has further authorized “Executive Order 154” which authorizes United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to begin covert operations with the aim to destabilize and to remove Chavez’ anti-American regime.
Sensing an inevitable clash of force and of wills, Venezuela has made official requests to a number of national governments for both military and financial aid. America’s old enemy, and one of the charter members of the OPEN10, Russia has answered the call and dispatched a large number of what it terms “economic and political advisors” to Venezuela. These “advisors” are nothing more than well trained and seasoned Specnaz operators who are actively training the Armia Nacional de Venezuela (ANV) and its militias to help keep Venezuela secure and to keep Chavez in power.
Mission:
By Executive Order of the President of the United States, no. 154, US-SOCOM is to initiate operations critical to the goal of the destabilization of the Venezuelan government. One point in particular is the location of “El Rialto” a major refinery area near Caracas. It is believed that this is also being used as a center of operations of the Russian “Advisors”. A blow to El Rialto has the potential to destroy both the main oil artery of Venezuela and remove the Russian element as well.
This facility once destroyed/neutralized/secured will serve as SOCOM’s FOB in a further tactical offensive into Caracas and Venezuela as a whole.
The end state of this mission will find the oil producing status of this station offline and ANV/Russian elements either neutralized or captured for further intel assistance and US assets in control of the facility.
US Forces:
US-SOCOM will be providing a wide variety of assets to place on the ground. Elements from the 75th Ranger Regiment and Special Operations Team Delta will be used primarily for this engagement.
Uniforms –Tan/DCU/Any current US camo pattern (MARPAT/ACU)
Enemy Forces:
A heavy presence of Armia Nacional who are well equipped and supplied both with US weaponry and recent addition of Russian munitions as well can be expected to provide a strong resistance to any contact. The Russian “advisors” are believed to be comprised of no less than two full platoons of Russian Specnaz (Special Forces).
Uniforms- US Woodland or OD for ANV forces or any Russian BDU/Uniform Patterns for Specnaz. Civilian clothing ok as well.
We will be using the ECRR Advanced medic rules again. Medic kits will be provided, 6 medics per side.
RPGs will also be in use, one will be issued to each side. There will be armoured vehicles in play (at least one, probably two).
Satchel charges will also be in use. These will be issued as needed for missions. They may also be used to eliminate armour.
Ammo limits will also be in effect. As the USSOCOM team will be covert and with limited supplies they will be limited to std/midcaps only and have 1000 round limit for std. AEGs. SAWs must accurately replicate a support gun (i.e. M60/m249/MG36/RPK) and will have a limit of 2500 rounds and be able to use box/winding mags. USSOCOM will not be allowed to reload at will, only when given resupply missions as well as at various reload/ammo depots on the field.
AVN forces may use hicaps as well as std mags. They will also have a 1000 round limit on AEGs and 2500 for SAWs but may reload as needed at the HQ.

There are two great truths in Major League Soccer:
1) Your team is either from Chicago or a suburb of Detroit.
2) Detroit sucks. |

I know I'll be going, and will be bringing Ordo and two of our friends.
We're most likely going as US.

I'm a little frustrated that the Russian side includes US Woodland Camo. I'd like to go US, but I'll have to go get some tan bdu's or something similar.

Technically it's the Venezualan side with Russian support, but that's storyline fluff.
But since it's a modern setting, it would be fitting that woodland is not used by US forces. The Venezuelan military does currently use a woodland-type camo(not standard issue, but it is used). In addition the Russians do issue a 'forest' camo, similar to US woodland.
As far as something suitable for US, the rules don't say it has to be an actual military uniform. You could do like Atlas did at Fallen Valor, and wear khakis. Like a military contractor look.

Looks like I either have to get some more bdu's, or go Russian then (If the game interpretation of uniform standards is a rigid as L337 says ).
Freeze, if you want to go Russian with that AK, I'm with you.

Given that I don't have a desert or tan set of Camoflauge, I guess I am going to go the Russian Side.
Atlas, Jon, what side are you guys planning on running as?

Note: USAF wears Woodland BDUs. Why does everyone forget this?
