I'm very intimidated by the gearbox of my TM AUG, and want to upgrade it. However, I can't seem to find a guide online, and even if I found one, I still think I'd be too scared to open up a $300 gun. My question is if I ordered all the necessary parts (I was looking at the Hurricane Upgrade Kit from airsoftatlanta.com, along with a polycarbonate piston), would someone be able to install it for me? The labor fee at airsoftatlanta.com is $40, but there's a month of waiting, and I'd rather not do that. I live in Cook County, in Northbrook, but I'd be willing to drive somewhere. So can anyone help me out? I'd prefer to be there as the gun is upgraded, so I can see how everything works, but it's not a necessary thing. Of course, I would pay...

You should talk to Kevin Z. about that, he is an airsoft technician.

Fill out an app for the team, as for upgrades.. ASJ, the place I used to work, charges $50 an hour on repairs and upgrades. Completely upgrading an AUG mechbox would take probably 1.5 to 2 hours just because opening that thing up and closing it up is a bitch. (not as bad as the SIG-552 though)

I don't know if I would necessarily be willing to do it just because I quit my job there due to lack of time for it. I don't think I'd be able to find the time. But ask other members, I know Adam (Admin) knows his way around a mechbox just fine also. A few other guys might be able to help too.

BTW that HurricanE upgrade kit isn't worth it.

Yea I can help you out with that sometime. My spring break is just about over so you'd have to catch me on a weekend or just ship me the mechbox (or the whole gun) and I can work on it during the week -- which I would prefer actually.

For my time, work, and my new gun fund I will only charge $20 for the upgrade, that way you have some money to spend on shipping if you do ship it.

As for the upgrade kit, if you havent ordered it yet, dont. They give you a lot of extra parts that you really dont need. I upgraded ONload's TM AUG with just an M120 spring and some steel bushings -- works great but I think the battery isn't giving out enough power to give it a full 400fps because it chronographed around the low 300's. My M4 hit 415 fps and I have a more powerful battery and not much more was done to my gun.

To make things really simple for me, try your best to get the gearbox out (I know it comes out of the stock after some wiggling and swearing).

Wow that would be awesome admin. I heard that PDI springs are easier on the gearbox, so should I just order a 150% from them instead? Also, if possible, could you list what parts I should get for an upgrade to get to about 350 FPS? I'd like to keep it as reliable as possible (obviously). What battery should I use? I have a custom one from batterypacks.com (8.4V 1400mah). Also, I could probably drive over my gun/gearbox once I order the stuff, so if you could PM your address, that would be great. Thanks alot. This is a big help.

A PDI 150% spring should be fine if you only want 350 fps. That and metal bushings are all you need for your gun to work properly. Reinforced gears are suggested by some companies, but you might as well use the ones you have; if they break, buy the reinforced ones then. I dont think that spring will break your gears, but it is possible with TM.

The battery I suggest is a 9.6v with at least 1100 mah (thats what I have). This way you dont lose much rate of fire. I got mine from batteryspace.com, look in their airsoft batteries section. How old are you btw and how did you come across our site? Just curious.

I don't know if he is going to get that size battery to fit in the AUG. I actually garuntee it lol, so either look into battery bags or not getting the FULL power, but still a great amount.

I'm 16. Also, as toggle said, I don't really know of any batteries that will fit. Is my only option to use an external battery?

I came across the site right when I first became interested, and was looking for places/teams around here to play with.

EDIT:
Is this stuff going to work:

there is a custom AUG battery from redwolf, its 9.6 1500mah.

u have to mod the butt of your gun to get it to fit. i just recently did it and the battery just squezes in.

I've already done the mod for the butt. My custom battery (8.4V 1400mah) fits just fine.

The bushings and spring you are looking at will work fine.

Will the battery be ok? It seems like it should work.

Also, how old generally are the HEAT members? Because I can't tell from the pictures, and I might be interested in joining in the future.

The majority of us are between 17 and 19 yrs old, but we have some older members like Yoroiden who is 22 and some younger members like Brian who is 14 I think.

I dont know about the battery, but if it says for AUG's, then it might work

Are these bushings ok?

www.airsoftgi.com/prod...cdfcf86319

Also, do I need shims?

I've heard that shoving Dynamat (foam stuff for car speakers) around the gearbox almost totally silences the gun. Has anyone tried this?

If you're upgrading the gears, then it might be a good idea to get shims, just incase. Otherwise if your gears are working fine as is, might as well leave 'em alone.

What yoroiden said. As for the dynamat, I'm sure it would help out quite a bit, but the AUG already has some foam surrounding the gearbox. If you really want to silence the gun, buy a King Arms silencer or another brand that is packed with foam to reduce the "bang" noise you hear from the distance. Back when my M4 was a total ghost, people would hear just a whistle fly past their ear --- if my gun were more accurate it could have maybe hit their ear Laughing

Amen to that Adam, that silenced M4 was scary.

My parts were ordered Sunday night from airsoftgi.com, but I don't know when I can expect them. How long do you think the upgrade will take Adam? In terms of actual time between when I drop off the gearbox and you can put everything in. Also, what days are best for you?

Anytime after Saturday is fine with me because that morning I am taking the ACT -- I should really be studing right now Mad

The time really depends on what I have to do. If the gearbox is out of the gun, I can probably have her running within an hour. If I need to reshim your gearbox (good possibility with new bushings) or if there is some unforseen problem, the time can increase.

I would expect to have everything done within 2 hours from when you arrive to when you shoot it; that is, unless we hit a problem Mad

The stuff is scheduled to arrive Monday. I'm going away next weekend, so I was thinking I would drop by sometime during the week to drop it off. Can you PM your address or email it to me @ zzhummelzz @ yahoo.com?

Thanks.
