Rules and Regulations

We have a new location for our website's rules and regulations. Instead of finding the post in our General Chat forum, there is a link at the top of our main menu under "Home". Take a moment to read the list and familiarize yourself with our policies. If you have any questions, contact us and we will try to clear anything up.

The list is long, but many of the rules will be common sense; we just have to have them up there so our moderators can say "it says right here in the rules...". For those who can't read a list that long, they can choose to watch the video version courtesy of Albino Blacksheep found by Knight.

Team Roster Optimization

I recently decided to change the look of our team roster. Now, instead of having the active members on one page and the inactive ones on another, both groups are shown on the same page. However, the inactive members do not display as much information and graphics compared to the active ones. This saves space on the page, but doesn't make you load a whole new page just to see the inactive members.

I also spent a lot of time optimizing the code so that the page would load faster. With more members being shown on the page than before, I really had to find new ways to speed up the Roster. Now, instead of the page loading in six seconds, it loads in one. The same improvement goes for the page which shows all of our weapons. I also narrowed down the number of queries (questions your computer asks the website) down to a fraction of the old number.

Enjoy the new Team Roster.

Website Version Upgrade

In addition to all the other improvements I have been making to the website, I just finished an upgrade to the most recent version of our website. This upgrade fixed the smiley order so now the forums look good again. There were more updates included in this version, but I don't need to explain them all. No data was lost and everything went smoothly on my end. If you happen to find any errors on the website, please Contact Us.

New Avatars

I finally added some good default avatars to our website for users to choose from. There are now 79 military avatars and they all look really cool. If you do not have an avatar setup yet, check out your avatar control panel and click the Show Gallery button. I also removed the unnecessary amount of smiley face avatars that nobody uses. Enjoy!

Our New Bad Post Policy

During the past few months, our website has become very strict about our forum rules to the point where we ended up banning more than a few members. These bans were all made due to the lack of consideration for our rules. Soon, we will be working on a whole new set of rules for users to follow. This new list will be less strict even though it may contain more rules -- as odd as that may sound.

If a user creates a post that does not follow our websites rules, a member of the team will take the appropriate action. First, the post will be moved into a private section that only HEAT members can view. Second, the offender will be sent a Private Message stating what he/she did wrong. Third, the HEAT member who notified the offender will then add the offense to a log that we are keeping. By the time an offender reaches 3 strikes, he/she will be banned from the site.

If you have any questions about this, Contact Us.

Goodbye Game Attendance Page

After lots of thought, I have decided to remove the Game Attendance page from our website. It can still be viewed through the various links among our website, but it will no longer be updated. This decision was made because it was too tedious going back-and-forth between the forums, calendar, and attendance page just to update some piece of data such as the date.

The Game Attendance page had a final total of 1100 lines of code and had a total of 70 game listings since January of 2006. Since the idea is still really good, I decided to integrate it into the Public Airsoft Events forum. Each topic in that forum will have its own little attendance box at the top of the first post of each page. There are links at the top and bottom of the topic window for a user to set his/her status. Now you don't have to visit two different pages just to figure out who is going and the information the event corresponds with.

The Public Airsoft Events forum once again allows any registered user to post topics about upcoming events. You no longer have to Submit a Game through our Game Attendance page so feel free to simply post the game information.

Atlas added to HEAT

Hoffman Estates Airsoft Team proudly accepted Leo (Atlas) as a member of the team. He has shown continued support for our website and has provided everyone with valuable information about airsoft. It has been seven months since we last added a new member to the team, Matt Davis, so we are happy to have another member representing the team.

Check out Atlas on our Team Roster or view his profile here.

H.E.A.T. Holds "Airsoft Night"

Hoffman Estates Airsoft Team held their first airsoft get-together called "Airsoft Night." This event took place at the Denny's in Schaumburg, IL. Members on the team who attended include: admin, birdman, toggle47, and ONload. Forum member, DeadEye, showed up as well.

We were easily able to hold a strong, four-hour conversation from 9pm to 1am with only five people, so don't feel that you will get bored or have nothing to do when you show up. All are welcome to come; bring friends, family, or anyone you know who may be interested in airsoft. We look forward to meeting all of you!

We all enjoyed talking about airsoft and just hanging out. There was even very long discussion about Zombies, so don't think airsoft is all we talk about. Remember, these events are for fun. Overall, we enjoyed getting together to talk and meet other people. We will be planning our next Airsoft Night soon, so check out our Game Attendance page for event listings and information.

H.E.A.T. Get's a S.A.W.

So after the Challenge Park Extreme game in August, one of our members, mustangpwr, had his first run-in with a S.A.W. (Squad Automatic Weapon) up close and personal. Before the summer he played a few CQB (Close Quarter Battle) games with one and he knew what it was capable of, but he was always on the receiving end and the games were always played in such tight areas that the power of the gun was never unleashed.

"Not until the last game did I see the power and might that a S.A.W. can have. In choosing teams, the players with S.A.W.'s were chosen first and both sides had at least one until later when we got Andre with his CA M249 Para(trooper). Andre and his buddy hooked up with us -- H.E.A.T. representing a large number of players -- and in simple words we rocked and rolled all over the opposing force. Being next to that gun and seeing it just unleash a stream of bb’s made me think we could really use one. I got to get me one of those so I started the process of looking for my new baby."
